Which is better – porcelain or natural stone?

Personal preference. Porcelain is popular because is is sold as low maintenance with perfect joints.

Natural stone has a natural beauty and arguably warmer feel. You can also get natural stone which has been honed and cut to achieve perfect joints and finishes. We suggest that you should choose a product that you like the look/feel of.

How do the product choices vary on price?

Budgets do vary, however most of the money spent in a patio goes into the excavated materials, the ground build up and the labour, so the stone choice will have a marginal difference across the entire project.

What sub base do you use?

After sufficient excavation, we always install a terram geotextile ground stabilisation membrane, compacted MOT, and then the stone is laid on a strong full bed of sharp sand/cement mix. The longevity of your patio is largely due to the installation of a sufficient base which is why we don’t cut corners.

What about drainage?

Drainage is always one of the first things we will think about when installing a patio. Where will the water run to? We use laser levels to achieve precise falls and install aco channels and drainage solutions where required.
